Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Kemble.
Owner and Master Stylist for Bristle + Grace. Jeanette is a graduate of Michigan State University and after a short career in Advertising, she decided she wanted to do something more creative and meaningful. She attended Pivot Point International for her cosmetology schooling and realized she had a passion for mentoring. Shortly after getting her license and working behind the chair, she trained with the Wella Corp. to become a technical educator to colorists and taught classes at various salons. She knew she always wanted to own her own business and started the salon in December of 2007. After 20 years in the industry, she still loves her position behind the chair and the relationships she has built with her clients. She feels that “natural” is most beautiful and loves to subtly enhance with colors and cuts that are easy to style and versatile for her clients.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Personally, for me, the hardest part of owning a salon is trying to balance working full-time behind the chair with office management. Whether its ordering products/supplies, managing schedules, ensuring ongoing staff education and salon marketing; there is never enough hours in the day to fully complete every “behind the scene” task.
Please tell us about Bristle + Grace.
Bristle + Grace is an elegant salon located in Lincoln Park. Originally opened in 2007, went sole-owner with the new name and fresh image in July 2016. Bristle + Grace was designed to be an airy, classic-contemporary space where clients can enjoy being pampered by our highly-skilled stylists. The stylists are well-trained and while diverse in talents, all are well-rounded experts in color, cutting, and styling. We believe in providing an exceptional experience in a beautiful and friendly environment.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was a little girl, I absolutely loved going to the salon with my mother. It was always such a glamorous experience. The way my mother smelled after getting her hair freshly colored was divine. While my mother sat for her services, I spent my time experimenting with their Merle Norman cosmetics. I tried on every lipstick and blush combination possible. I became a total product junkie at a very young age. To this day, when I smell Shaper Hairspray, I feel like I’m back in 6th grade at the salon with my mom!
