Meet Renata Block of Super Derm Girl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renata Block.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Renata. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Super Derm Girl was actually created by accident. As a medical provider, a respected PA-C, I pride myself on taking care of others. Because I was very concerned about the public getting misinformed about proper skin care, a friend and talented artist, Tami Bruno, decided to create an illustration of me to start promoting skin care facts, tips and information to educate others.

I needed a persona for this fabulous character and, VOILA, Super Derm Girl was born! So, I decided I could take it to the next level by sharing information on social media. I want to provide education for people to be aware of various skin conditions and make sure they get the proper medical care they need!

As a reminder, it does NOT replace consulting your medical professional but brings awareness.

How do you, personally, define success? What’s your criteria, the markers you’re looking out for, etc?
I personally define success by making a difference. This can be a monumental movement, to a small token of gratitude from a stranger, to someone simply telling me that I am an inspiration. I always love Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” This is what gets me through any obstacles. Perseverance is key.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely, positively NOT a smooth road for Super Derm Girl on social media. I am doing things I had no idea on how to do and had to learn along the way. Oh boy, there were a lot of mistakes, wrong turns but it was a sign of redirection.

It can be difficult at times to find your niche, but you have to stay real and follow your gut because that bitch is always right! I have accepted ME for who I am and am proud to give the world my uniqueness. The first step is getting past the most toughest critic of the day, myself.

Super Derm Girl (social media) – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a PA-C specializing in Dermatology. I love to diagnose, manage, and treat people. My work is my life and I am lucky to have been at the same practice for over 10 years. Many know me as Super Derm Girl, my educational persona I have created on social media.

What really sets me apart is that I do not focus on cosmetics such as injections, botox, etc. like every other Instagram, Facebook or social media handles out there. I focus on people and their diagnosis, product reviews, product giveaways (I love to share) and some motivational tidbits.

I am constantly growing as a person and want to take my information to the next level to inspire. I am most proud of creating a ‘”brand” that is educational and fun. Again, I ALWAYS stress to see a medical professional as people tend to ignore things that could end up being really serious!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Many people from the medical community and industry approaching me and thanking me for creating public awareness about dermatology that people should be seeking out the proper medical advice and taking care of themselves.
