Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Joseph Stampfl.
Alex Joseph, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated from Cortiva Institute of Massage Therapy in Chicago in May of 2016, becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist. I worked at three jobs as a massage therapist before starting my own business in April of 2016. My first job was at a gym where I gained much needed work experience. Shortly after that, I was hired at a small spa where I gained a lot my confidence as a massage therapist. My third job I worked alongside a chiropractor, where I began to develop a focus for the medical approach to massage. Having always wanted to work for myself, I decided it was time.
In order to improve and grow my business, I thought it necessary to take classes, seminars, and read lots of books on business. Having a small business is a daily learning experience. I plan to continue my education, and strive to build up my business to continually provide a valuable experience for my clients.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Getting the business off its feet was a challenge.
Getting my name out and building a clientele.
The uncertainty of the business, the ups and downs.
Please tell us about Alex Stampfl Massage and Bodywork.
My business is called Alex J Stampfl Massage and Bodywork. I work to promote health and wellness through clinical massage and bodywork. I help people to get rid of their chronic pains and aches, and help them to learn how to relax again. I specialize in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage. Most of my clients are sitting at a computer/desk all day, every day. I also see a lot of law students, and students in medical school or nursing.
I would say I am proud of the smoothness at which the business operates and the impeccable service that I offer. I am proud of the ease with which people can book their appointments, and the great service that my clients receive consistently every time. Through my business, I form relationships with clients, based on trust and consistent service which I work to ensure they find satisfactory.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I started out with only doing 4 days a week, if I had to start over, I would have started out full time – doing 6-7 days a week.
If I had to start over, I would have like to establish a better marketing strategy.
