Thanks for sharing your story with us Krysta. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Base Salon is a boutique hair and beauty salon in the heart of the West Loop with a focus on high-end services and luxury amenities. I’ve built a following of amazing clients over my 10-year career in the Chicago beauty industry and was thrilled to open a space that caters to clientele looking for a more modern environment.
At Base, everyone from the West-Loop-chic crowd to modern gents, to moms-on-the-go are not just welcomed, they’re welcomed like family.
The well-appointed salon (designed in collaboration with Studio West Architects) purveys styling products from the celeb-loved brands like Kevin Murphy and Beachwaver and features a rotating gallery of work by local artists. Base’s close proximity to Randolph Street and Fulton Market’s booming restaurant and nightlife scene makes it the perfect spot to get ready before a night out!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We just recently celebrated our first birthday and I’m so happy to say that things have been going great for our first year!
Base Salon – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What sets us apart most is the atmosphere at Base. Everyone that walks in the door is treated like family and there is a strong vibe of the community.
Along with making all of our clients feel welcome and at home, we also strive to making them instantly feel more stylish and confident just by walking in the door. Our decor is modern and unique – from the local artist’s work on the walls to the music that’s flooding the room.
Lastly, of course, our talent sets us apart. All of our artists are trained in both coloring and styling and beyond hair, we also have an aesthetician that focuses on waxing, and makeup artists available for applications and tutorials.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There has been many of those – but one of the most exciting days recently was our first anniversary and being able to celebrate with all of our amazing clients, neighborhood supporters, and Base team.
