Aymee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always knew I wanted to be a hairstylist! I went to cosmology school in Madison, Wisconsin, an hour away from home, to get the college experience. It was everything I ever wanted, I felt like I was at home behind the chair. After beauty school, I moved to Chicago Land to go BIG in the city. The first salon I worked as a licensed stylist was 3 stories downtown Chicago. They had a training program where I needed to decide between cutting and coloring. After a year I realized I wanted to do both, I loved being with the guest from beginning to end.
My husband and I were dating at the time and he was thinking of opening Paul Joseph Salon in Naperville. I felt it was a perfect fit. Work together as a team. Not to mention the Suburbs where more my style. I could do it all (cut and color) and be close to home! We got married 2 years after our 2005 opening. I still do many of my guests who helped me plan my wedding. Naperville has been an awesome place for growing a loyal clientele.
Today I do more than hair, I help motivate our team to be the best versions of themselves! I teach skill certification courses to help the next generation of Paul Joseph Hair stylists become GREAT at what they love! I also help raise funds for Alliance for the Great Lakes and to give back to other less fortunate countries with the help from Aveda.
I would say I’m exactly where I wanted to be at this stage in my life! I live my life by the mission statements of Paul Joseph and Aveda, I am committed to Beauty, Fashion and Service along with Caring for the World we live in and giving back to society!
Has it been a smooth road?
I love what I do and I love being around people who live with the same passion! I have worked with many talented hairstylists, the hardest part is seeing them move on. Whether it be to stay at home to raise a family or to move out of state it never gets easier. I have found joy in everyone I have worked with. When you have been in this career for over 13 years you watching people come and go. I’m not good at goodbyes.

Paul Joseph Salon is a team of enthusiastic artistic leaders committed to beauty, fashion and servicing our guests! I am behind the chair making the guest I see feel beautiful full time. I do both Aveda color and precision cutting along with texture services and formal styling. I would say I’m best known for my loyal clientele whom I treat with individuality every time they sit in my chair.
I work hard at giving them the best-finished result and teaching them how to replicate the look themselves. I am most proud of helping my team learn new techniques and achieve the best results possible.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Naperville is an awesome city to raise children, they are very family friendly. We have everything right at our fingertips. Great school districts and shopping along with a cool downtown. The downside, if any, would be traffic. There are a lot of people in Naperville, but I see it as a positive… more potential guests!
