Conversations with the Inspiring Chelsea Bell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Bell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I learned the technique of eyelash extensions in the fall of 2014 with a small company that was based out of Georgia. They had a pop up in Memphis, TN and took the class there because I was living in Nashville, TN at the time. After I took the class, I did not start taking clients right away. I waited and moved back to my hometown of Chicago. When I moved home, I started to notice a rise and interest in the field of lash artistry. Everyone wanted to learn and I just observed people until I was able to get people to let myself practice and before I could practice, I had to get my lashes done, so I could know what it’s like to have them myself. I looked for an artist high and low. I also asked many ladies questions with lash extensions.

After about 7 months, I learned so much! There was the excellent, the bad and the worse. People seem to like quantity over quality and it’s quite insane. Oh well, moving on teehee!

I practiced and asked so many questions. I enrolled myself in Esthetics school in Illinois’ oldest beauty school called Your School of Beauty Culture on the south side of Chicago. I invested a few thousand to further my lash technique and education. My mentor is Elena Asher-Trielles of Lashmakers in Miami, FL and she cracks the whip when it comes to my brand as an artist because she knows my artistry is powerful and piercing. Trust me when I say Elena’s way is the only way! AND IT IS! Learning her technique of training has increased my artistry as an artist. I stand out! I’ve learned so much that I am a European Couture Style Lash Artist and I’ve received a few calls from Europe inquiring lash appointments. My next venture will be a certification in Mega Volume Eyelash Extensions this fall, the extreme leagues of Lash Artists.

I now work downtown Chicago as Re’Luxe Nail Spa Boutique of River North exclusive Esthetician. I plan to start traveling to LA to expand my talents and to please my LA base as my fans and followers always connect with myself through social media needing some Sasss in the city.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Ha! I wish it was a smooth road, but the rose petals are unfolding for a very smooth road approaching. The work ethic of creating your life the way you destine for it to become can be tough at times.

Dealing with the public can be challenging and you have to be strong enough to play the game. Whether they’re a client or an employer.

The struggle a lot can be people disrespecting your time, artistry and profession. That can be the hardest and you have to be stern because I’ve lost clients for standing my own ground and not letting them run my show. People will run you if you let them and some people get lost along the journey, but that is alright because another person is coming for the respect of your brand.

What should we know about Sasss Beauty? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a lash artist and when I am unavailable from lashing, I am taking some kind of fitness class and/or teaching yoga.

The name of my brand is Sasss.

I love Russian Volume Lashing more than Classic. I wanna be Janet Jackson’s personal lash artist slick beauty advisor when I grow up and I am 28 years young.

I specialize in Classic, Russian Volume, Color and Bottom Lash Extensions. I also specialize in Brow Waxing and Tinting with the support of healthy skin care.

My creativity and attention to detail and sanitation set me apart from other lash artists. I am known for beauty!

I am very proud that my brand actually practices therapeutic luxury services.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The best advice I can give anyone is to just go for it! Start slow and be smart about the journey. Enroll in school because it is important to know proper sanitation to protect yourself and the client.
