Meet Briana Ankenbrandt of Color By Briana Lynne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Ankenbrandt.

Briana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I worked as a freelance makeup artist (weddings on the side) as well as a hair colorist at a top salon in the city of Chicago as well as the suburbs. After working at the salon for over 2 years I decided to take a leap of faith and open my own business. I continued with my clientele from the previous salon, as well as a new clientele, I also really broadened my makeup business. Now I’m a full-time hairstylist and wedding makeup artist. 🙂

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a struggle for sure. From starting out with a small following and barely covering the bills to becoming so busy I have to turn some business away. It has really shown me that hard work truly pays off. I never stop networking or accepting new clients.

Please tell us about Color By Briana Lynne.
I am a hairstylist specializing in hair color, as well as a makeup artist, specializing in weddings. I am known for creating soft highlights, baby lights, Balayage, and other “free hair painting” techniques. I love giving my clients lived in hair color while still having an edge to it. I am also a huge advocate for natural makeup.

I think makeup should enhance your natural beauty, not add or take away from it. I love being able to add a soft glam eye or sharp contour to any client or bride of mine. I think my ability to listen to my client and to tailor A look to each person individually is what sets me apart from others.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have gone to beauty school earlier in life! Not that I’m mad I went to college and got a bachelors degree, I just wish I started hair and makeup even earlier in life. My business/marketing degree has definitely helped me design a better strategy within my own business, I just wish I would have gone into hair and makeup before all this crazy YouTube and social media stuff took off.
