Today we’d like to introduce you to David Bacso.
Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I used to frequent Kuma’s Corner as a loyal customer. Then, I decided I actually wanted to be apart of this unique burger bar. I started as a line cook for Kuma’s Corner in 2009. Since then, I have had the honor of being Executive Chef as well as General Manager of the original Kuma’s Corner location. Currently, I serve as Creative Director for Chicagoland’s Kuma’s Corner locations.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing good comes easy. Chicago’s food scene has changed dramatically over the years. Kuma’s used to be the only place you could go for a fried egg on a burger and a wide selection of local craft beer. That’s simply not the case anymore.
So, we continue to challenge people’s perception of what a burger can be. While still delivering the best local craft beer there is to offer.
We also have an amazing team, that is growing every year, that has been instrumental in our continued success.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kuma’s Corner – what should we know?
Kuma’s started in 2005 with its flagship location at the corner of Belmont and Francisco avenues in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood.
We’re huge metalheads, so naturally, we started creating our burgers after and with our favorite metal bands. The spirit of collaboration with the bands is very important to us. With that concept in mind, and using the freshest, locally provided food, our customers started to increase and failure to keep up was not an option.
We’ve since grown to five locations (Avondale, Lakeview, West Loop, Schaumburg and Indianapolis) that offer the finest burgers available on this planet or any other.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance and quality.
