Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Emily. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a photographer based in Chicago, Illinois. I currently attend Columbia College Chicago as a photography major with studies in marketing and social media. I was raised in Toledo, Ohio and moved here for school and it’s the best choice I could’ve made of myself; I am in love with this city and everything it has to offer. I started out taking portraits and fine art photographs in high school, making me fall in love with the art. Now, I dip my toes in a little bit of everything: portraits, music, food, lifestyle and commercial photography.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been the easiest road. It definitely takes a lot of hustle to make it as a photographer. Moving from a small, STEM-based high school to a huge city was a big adjustment for me but I haven’t regretted it at all. Making opportunities for myself and producing work I’m proud of is a full-time job and a constant hustle but something I love to do!
Emily Davis Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a freelance photographer in Chicago. I currently do a little bit of everything but specialize in portrait, music and commercial photography. I also study marketing and social media so, I also provide services managing social media accounts. I am proud of the wide variety of work I create on a daily basis but still staying true to my brand and what I want my work to portray. I think my variety of skills, constant work and personal style sets me apart from other artists and photographers in the area.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as making your passion into a career. I like to remind myself of “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” I consider myself successful if I enjoy what I’m doing, I’m proud of my work and growth, and love the life I’ve made for myself. It is definitely hard to measure success, especially in the creative industry, because there is a reputation of financial instability. However, I think if you’re passionate about what you do, you will find a way to make the other pieces fall into place.
