Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Young.
Lauren, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my career in NYC working in fashion PR and events. I loved the city and my job was nothing but boring, but after 3 years it was time to come home to my roots. I am originally from Minneapolis and Chicago seemed to be a happy medium. A big city while still being close to home with those midwest sensibilities.
I began my work in Chicago in advertising for McDonald’s, but after 7 months, went solo and started my own business, Essence of Ellis. I have had a history of health issues and over the years have gained a very healthy interest in sustainability, holistic healing and living in a more aware and beneficial sense. Essence of Ellis was created for just that.
My blog and the various clients that I work with hover around those morality pillars and beliefs. On top of being a blog, I just recently launched Essence of Ellis on YouTube in 2018 and I work as a content creator for various different brands. My specialty is creating socially shareable events that create ‘scrappy’ and authentic content for socials and web.
I have done my best as I grow into myself and into my career to tailor what I do around what I am passionate about. It wasn’t until I moved to Chicago that I really understood exactly where my passions lied.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing has been a smooth road on my journey, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have dealt with plenty, none of which I choose to ruminate on, but all of which I am thankful to have faced and learned from.
Please tell us about Essence of Ellis.
I work as a marketing and production consultant as well as blogger and YouTuber. All of which live under my brand Essence of Ellis. My blog was started to inspire a love of health and wellness with a broader focus on sustainability and living a large and impactful life. That soon turned into a consulting business for clients that function under the same principals. I do everything from content creation, production, project management, marketing and events.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t think I have just one, I had a great childhood with a plethora of great memories!
