Today we’d like to introduce you to T. L. Williams.
T.L., can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m an R&B singer-songwriter who grew up in Chicago’s West Suburbs. I grew up in a musical family where my dad introduced me to the piano at age 4. Known for hit records such as Gettin Mo Money Than You, My latest album “Love In The 3rd Wave” is available now wherever music is sold.
As a recording artist and a brand ambassador for Infinite Scholars, I wanted to start something that helps push forward the strength and significance of music in schools. I remember growing up in a school district that had a prominent music program and how much that positively affected the community. In 2016, I founded Symphony Of Change as a division of Infinite Scholars to help evolve music programs in underprivileged Chicagoland schools.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any new idea, there is going to be an uphill battle of some sort. There will be people who may not want to see the success of the effort. However, I’m happy to say that the road has been smoother than most.
Symphony Of Change – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Symphony Of Change is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to restoring music programs in Chicagoland Schools. We are a division of infinite scholars, which help bring college scholarships to underprivileged high school seniors around the country. Through a series of different programs; Symphony of Change works with schools who either don’t have a music program, lost their program or may be at risk, to replenish the resources necessary for the music to continue. We are a division of an organization that since 2003 as gotten students over 1.5 Billion dollars in scholarships. Our pilot program started in October of 2017 with Ronald Brown Academy as our 1st school. We have new schools that will start with us in the fall of 2018.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Working with a school like Ronald Brown Academy continues to be very rewarding. Brown didn’t have a band at first, and to watch them go from no band to their 2nd band concert in the school year is amazing. The morale and excitement can be felt throughout the school.
