Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina Gato.
Regina , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
6 years ago me and my partner Trevor worked at Ballys, they got bought out by LA fitness. They offered us our positions at a 33% pay cut . We were faced with the decision to go big or going home. We believed in each other so 30 days after we left Ballys we opened Treads Gym . 6 years later we are still going strong and have expanded this past year with our 2nd location. Training revolution which is in Wicker park is a much larger version of Treads , trying to bring Personal training to the larger group class setting. With locations in Lincoln & Wicker Park we are very happy with the decision we made 6 years ago to go big .
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ha… smooth … I don’t think that exists when you own your own business. At Treads we have been lucky enough to rely on referrals and word of mouth in the neighborhood . But at Training Revolution since it is a larger scale we are constantly trying to get our name out there. Because we don’t have a brand that is recoginized (yet) to rely on, we are constantly hustling to educate the city on what Training Revolution is.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Treads Gym & Training Revolution story. Tell us more about the business.
We revolutionize fitness. We believe in providing motivation through our instruction and innovation. We don’t compromise on form or movement. We focus on what works to help you reach your goals. We take personal training out of the box and make it accessible to everyone. We pride ourself on the fact that you will never get the same workout at either location. I think the thing that sets us apart is that me and Trevor are constantly mixing things up and trying to make every workout as fun as possible. So it’s not something that you dread going to, rather look forward to it . I’m most proud of the fact that we started from nothing and because we have stayed true to the training aspect of the business we have grown well beyond anything we thought was possible.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think your always going to have a little bit of both. We have been lucky enough that our first location has been so successful and given us the means to open our second. Bad luck on the other hand will come in waves throughout the year and as long as you can get through them you’ll come out stronger .
