Nick has worked full-time for UPS for 15 years, and I (Erin) spent the last 14 years working as practice administrator in a dental office, part-time. When our 5th baby was just 3 weeks old, all 4 of our daughters and myself, were given the gift of head lice! Well, now we call it a gift because we are firm believers in “everything happens for a reason” and it was that experience that led us to Lice Clinics of America. After a few days of sheer panic and combing for hours at home first, we made the call to the clinic. We left the clinic completely lice free, with peace of mind and a tremendous weight lifted off our shoulders. This led us to open our own clinic, having been there ourselves experiencing head lice first hand, and having no idea what to do or look for (we completely missed it on two of our kids even though we looked tirelessly), the value was obvious and we wanted to make families feel the way we did when we left the clinic. Nick always wanted to start a business, for years, but I always told him he was crazy! This was the first business opportunity that made sense to me. We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has gone very well, but overwhelming as we have been busier than anticipated from the get-go. We struggle to find good staff that will represent us and our story when we aren’t in the clinic. The on-call nature of the business makes it tough to anticipate from day to day.

When we can educate families on how to treat safely and effectively outside the clinic should they choose to, and we can watch them leave smiling after they come in so stressed out, we have been successful. When we help to end the stigma, we are successful.
