Today we’d like to introduce you to Aurora Schell.
Aurora, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Personal training is a career that slowly crept up on me. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a teammate in one sport or another, but always for social reasons, never competitive. Regardless, the values rubbed off on me and I found my self with more discipline, motivation, and energy than those around me who did not have athletic hobbies.
As life went along, other values got instilled in me, religion, politics, sciences, technology, yet everything came back to our bodies. Whether one’s body is a temple, a figure with rights to freedom and happiness, a vessel to grow and adapt, or a machine to carry out the day’s work, most will agree that we only get one body so we better treat it well. That idea alone is what makes personal training one of the most important careers.
The current situation of most health fields are reactive, training is proactive and injury/disease prevention. Our single body allows us to connect and relate to others, it could very well be the biggest common denominator among everyone, and without it we are nothing. Helping others to realize the importance of their own body and all that it can do for them is what started my personal training career, my passion for people and coaching them into the best lifestyle imaginable.
When we take care of our body through physical activity, other aspects of life change, nutrition becomes healthier, concentration and focus is clearer, energy and positivity levels are raised, even a simple turn of the head to check blinds spots while driving becomes second nature because it is smooth and easy to give an extra 10% in day to day life. It all stems from taking care of our bodies and how it helps life be that extra 10% better every day!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While the fitness world is incredibly openminded through social media pioneers and advances in health sciences, being a petite female personal trainer comes with its ups and downs. My size nor gender have nothing to do with the education and experience that I have. Sometimes it seems that big biceps are the Ph.D. of trainers, but let me assure you, whether we are talking about doctors, mechanics, or personal trainers, you always want the one that KNOWS what they are doing, not just LOOKS like they know what they are doing.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Personal Trainer story. Tell us more about the business.
I create tailored productive discomfort. While everyone only has one body, and we can all rally around that, it is the uniqueness of each individuals anatomy that makes personal training so essential.
Measurements of the femur, shins, hands, shoulders, all go into consideration when creating a program for a client, this is not a one-size-fits-all app for a phone. Every angle of one’s anatomy while doing an exercise is taken into consideration to create the fastest, safest results with longevity. Everyone is going to do a push-up differently, and they should, because everyone has a unique glenohumeral joint. Not only are the mechanics of a training session with me tailored, but the time spent in session is too.
Throughout my coaching and curing, we’ll catch up on how your kids are doing, discuss new restaurants to try, or even just vent about work. One is not just sweating at the end of a session, they are leaving feeling cared for, refreshed, and ready for the rest of the day (physically and mentally). Every aspect of a training session with me is tailored to create the best you!
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
My proudest moment will always be those small moments with everyone I’ve had the honor to train that has achieved an ‘aha!” moment. When the mind-muscle connection clicks and a muscle is activated as it should and the exercise feels hard-but worth it! When others get that endorphin rush or that sense of self-accomplishment, each of those small moments will always make me the most proud, until the next small ‘aha” moment.
