Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamra Ellingson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tamra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since an early age, I was drawn to all forms of art. I would spend hours drawing, painting, and creating anything where my imagination could run free. I then began modeling for a few agencies in Minneapolis MN around the age of 20 and a few years later became a graphic designer for a menu company in WI.
At that point, I decided to mesh all my talents together and move to Chicago to enroll in a fashion design program. I received my bachelor’s degree in 2012 and the following year launched my clothing line. I started selling to a few local boutiques and began to build a client base for my custom clothing. I get to make women look and feel beautiful while creating a fashionable work of art, and that is a huge bonus any day of the week!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are so many different paths to take in the fashion industry that finding the right one was probably the most difficult. I definitely tried a lot of wrong ways before finding what works best for me. The industry is always changing so you have to stay innovative and evolve with it, finding new ways to get people excited about fashion.
Tamra Ellingson – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Chicago based fashion designer specializing in custom tailored clothing. My fabrics are imported from various regions of the world to create an elegant silhouette with a luxurious texture. Clients are welcomed by appointment into the studio where they can browse new fabric selections and samples.
My clothing is not your standard size, design, or trend. It is uniquely customized to encompass each woman’s body, personality, and style. The designs express every woman individually by inviting them to be a part of the entire process from with the design concept down to the fit, feel, and color.

If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
In all honesty, I don’t really regret anything that I tried because everything I did teach me a new lesson and expanded my knowledge. But if I had to start over I would have opened my studio for my clients immediately and chosen to bypass the route of selling to boutiques on consignment. I also would have taken my time to develop the vision of my brand and avoided some of the trial and error moments I stumbled on along the way.
