Today we’d like to introduce you to Philip Minefee.
Philip, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my company in 2011, while working for a personal injury law firm in Chicago. One of the positions I held was a legal videographer/photographer. I wanted to have a more fulfilling overall work life balance, while also doing something that I loved to do. I also wanted to inspire people from all walks of life, that no matter what your passion is, it is never too late, and the best time to start is now.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been pretty smooth so far. Being in business for yourself allows you to grow at a pace you are comfortable with. I actually like having things to constantly work on, because I feel it keeps me sharp. When business is slow, that is when I work on developing myself as a photographer and business owner. I would say my biggest challenge is not believing in myself enough. Any obstacle can be overcome, but first you have to get into action!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Philip Minefee Photography – what should we know?
Philip Minefee Photography specializes in events and portraits. I happen to be known for fashion photography in Chicago. I started shooting the various fashion weeks around the city, and it turned out to be a great way to network with the who’s who in the industry. As a company, I am proud that I didn’t have to deviate from who I am to be successful. People invest in me, and I am invested in people. I like to bring that “human” element to my work.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I honestly don’t think it’s any one thing, but more of a combination. Ambition, honesty, integrity, knowledge, guts, and determination all played a huge part in my success. Oh I forgot about belief. I always thought I would be successful, I just didn’t know how I was going to do it.
