Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmine Kitanovski.
Yasmine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been fortunate in my life to pursue a career that I love and am passionate about. Over the years, I have worked at some amazing salons in Chicago. Growth is a very important part of my journey. In that sense, I am very excited to apply my 18 years of experience in the industry to achieve my own idea of beauty for each of my clients, as the best version of yourself…
My career first began with Mario Tricoci where I experienced great success, thanks in no small part to the lessons I learned there as a student as well as a mentor. Education is a huge part of growth that dictates the evolution of a career. With an understanding of its importance, I served as an educator for 10 years in haircutting and styling to share the knowledge I received from my own mentors with other aspiring artists. I have worked with several magazines, styling models for spreads featured in publications such as Chicago magazine, Time Out Chicago, Michigan Avenue, Chicago Social, and Chicago Social Bride. I have also been featured in Allure magazine for their “Best Of.”
I then had the privilege to work for Anthony Cristiano Salon, where I carried my knowledge over into the position as Director of Hairstylists. Anthony Cristiano is one of the greatest artists I know! He was a great mentor to me. At this stage, I really grew within myself as an artist.
As my personal life grew, I became a mother, one of the most amazing things that could have ever happened to me. I always felt that career and family were one and the same. Both defined success to me, which is why I was then inspired in the evolution of my career, to pursue my own vision. I decided to carry my career to Paul Rehder Salon, where the culture is one that exudes similar values of freedom to create that vision. The concept is one that inspires me but more importantly allows me to grow once more at this stage in my life with a space of my own, JulianaAlexander.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve had to work very very hard throughout my entire career! It has taken a lot of hard work, dedication, patience, and time. I am willing to continue to work hard to pursue my aspirations! I have started over many times, but this time it’s my vision!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JulianaAlexander Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
My space is a small boutique studio salon. I am a Hairstylist that specializes in cutting, styling, extensions, bridal hair, and updo’s.
I’m most proud that I’m doing it. That I started with idea and it growing. I also love that my clients enjoy the space.
I feel that I really try to connect with my client’s needs. I think your hair is one of many accessories you wear to feel amazing. I love making them feel great and it so different for everyone.
Yes it’s about trends but really it’s about what works for you in your life and achieving that on a daily basis. I also love creating an experience.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I really see the industry becoming about an experience and enhance of ones individuality. I see smaller personalized boutique salons. I feel people in this industry taking more pride in their profession.
