Meet Amy Yassinger of Yazz Jazz Entertainment in Lincoln Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Yassinger.

Amy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a vocalist in different bands and ensembles, I formed my own band in 2009. In 2010, I created Yazz Jazz because we were getting some requests for private parties. It was at a wedding where I connected with a DJ and learned how crowds interact at weddings and what they are looking for musically. Because over 65% of couples request a DJ, I brought on several talented and experienced DJ’s to my team to enhance the experience of my clients. My band grew from 4 members in 2010 to 7-14 members today. We can do small, themed parties or large, full-production east Coast Style receptions and everything in between. I also have a team of string musicians who create an elegant, Classical vibe at the events they are a part of. We recently featured some of our talent on a TV show and are excited to make that announcement very soon!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth. Over the years I have had to work with several team members to find the perfect fit for our family. It has taken a few years to establish the energetic, positive team that I have today and we look forward to our continued growth. Other than that, the road isn’t always smooth but it’s all about the fun ride that comes with running a business full of creative people and working with clients of both large and small musical visions! I find the challenge incredibly fun and entertaining! I should also mention that having the word “Jazz” in our name is sometimes misleading and I have to remind people that “Yazz Jazz” is a play-on phrase of my last name, Yassinger.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Yazz Jazz Entertainment – what should we know?
My business Yazz Jazz Entertainment is based on my last name, Yassinger. My education in college and grad school was in Jazz and Pop singing so over time, I have utilized my experience and technique from my education to learn more songs and entertain others. Even though I sing, my company has done several events with no singing at all. We specialize in personalizing musical visions and bringing them to life! We can have one facet of an event with a string quartet, moving into a Jazz band for an upbeat, elegant mingling format and then a DJ for the conclusion of the evening. My party band is our special cup of tea. We play all styles of music and have so many different versatile vocalists to choose from that we give our clients the best of everything. I have vocalists (including myself) who can cover unique sounds of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Peter Cetera, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson and Boy bands to name a few! Our ability to jump from style to style flawlessly and deliver to our crowds with an impeccable amount of energy sets us apart from others. Our positive attitude and willingness to work with everyone to personalize the musical landscape for all of our clients is also something that sets us apart from everyone. I am so honored to have a team of experienced, award-winning FUN people!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Our flexibility and ability to improvise on the spot whenever necessary. We “go with the flow” while maintaining control over the entire evening because we set the mood and keep people from leaving events. We also have the ability to add a DJ to our band to give our clients the best of both worlds!
