Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Mayuga.
Lindsay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been working in the salon world from the time I was 16 years old. I am from Minneapolis, MN. I felt drawn to Chicago and moved after hair school at 19 to follow my passion of being a colorist. I apprenticed for over a year at a very high end salon with multiple locations, to say I hustled was an understatement. I am now 30 years old and worked for other people the first 8 years of my career I have been representing myself first co-opening the very successful studio, The Comb. After 4 amazing years in business, I decided to pivot again and open my very own place, Linmay Studio. It has been a quite a ride so far but this latest adventure makes all of the hard work worthwhile. Linmay Studio is an appointment only, high end hair studio with a laid back cali vibe and a shop dog. This place is what girl boss dreams are made of.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think that anything you love to do, you will find a way. It has NOT been this straight line to where I am. I have spent many nights on the EL train at 10 pm sitting in a urine scented train car to get to where I am. Whenever I have moved on from a salon, it has been very hard for me but I heard something that I love recently – It should be hard for you to move on, it’s means you made an impact and you will be missed! It’s not easy to keep growing but it’s worth it!
Please tell us about Linmay Studio.
I specialize in haircolor and have a loyal clientele that has followed me for over a decade. I am known for natural lived in hair color and shooting people straight! I am most proud of the fact that I have been really true to myself and my goals. My studio is out of my dreams, I mean I bring my dog with me! It has a cult like following and it is such an intimate experience. It is an oasis from all the hustle bustle of everyday life.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t do it differently because this is my story and it was meant to be lived by me exactly how it all unfolded.
