Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Krueger.
Elizabeth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, I think the “designer” genes were in me from the beginning. As my parents can attest to, I used to constantly rearrange the furniture in our home when I was a kid. Always trying new combinations and layouts. Nothing ever lasted very long, as I was always thinking about the next arrangement. That interest in design never truly went away, which is why I ended up pivoting my career and pursuing a degree in interior design after getting an undergrad degree in an unrelated major.
After school, I had the opportunity to work for, and with, amazing individuals including the team at Holly Hunt and the extremely talented Tracy Hickman. Each opportunity guided me to the decision to build my own design firm, Elizabeth Krueger Design, in 2012. From there it has been a wild, expansive, and humbling ride. Our team has grown, our client network has been enriched and expanded, and our design process has evolved and matured into a well-oiled machine. Don’t get me wrong, there are still plenty of bumps in the road, but when I think back to moving furniture around as a kid, it’s clear that myself, and the firm, have come a long way, and there’s nothing more fulfilling than that.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. The truth is that interior design is 30% design and 70% project management. A big part of our job is to take on the challenges that will inevitably come up in every project, and to still get the job done – and to get it done right. Add in the inherent stressors of being a first-time business owner and you can imagine how difficult this path can be to navigate at times. But, I couldn’t picture doing anything else and find so much meaning in what I do that it’s truly all worth it.
Elizabeth Krueger Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
It all starts with our belief that every space has a purpose. Personally, when we are surrounded by the things that we love, things that are a source of joy – favorite books, travel photos, chairs worn down by those most special to us – we find inspiration and meaning in our work. So our purpose and passion at EKD is to create that same environment for each person we work with.
Together, alongside our clients, we create beautiful, functional, and uniquely tailored homes that fit their individual perspectives and style.
Our hope is to curate a styled space, in which the true value isn’t defined by the pedigree of the things inside it, but rather by the meaningful environment we created as a team.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There have been so many major milestones since starting the firm in 2012. But, one that comes to mind immediately is being featured in Elle Decor!
