Meet Demetria Hayden of Altogether Lovely in West Englewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetria Hayden.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Demetria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started braiding hair as young as 10 years old. I would do family, friends & neighbors). As I got older (teenager) I began to branch out and would do schoolmates hair which led to their parents and continued into adulthood. While working in a department store I continued to build a clientele. When I realized that this could be a great career I enrolled in cosmetology school, received my license and began my journey of owning my own business. My first salon was in the basement of my parents’ home. They allowed me to transform the basement into a small beauty salon. In January, 1996, with 4 employees, Altogether Lovely was launched. In February of 1998, Altogether Lovely expanded to a storefront in the West Englewood community on the south side of Chicago. As of today, this location continues to house the business. We have expanded over the years and is known as a versatile establishment. (Salon, hair care product line, education center.

I have 30+ years in the hair care industry. 21 years as a business owner, a mother, wife and ordained minister. Very active in community outreach and host various Free Hair care workshops for young entrepreneurs that are interested in the hair care industry. Also, to adult consumers wanting to know how to better care for their hair.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve encountered many struggles along the way. I didn’t have much background in running a business so it was trial and error for many years. As I got older and wiser, I began to attend business workshops and seminars. Which has helped tremendously. If I had to choose the biggest struggle that I have had I would say financing and obtaining working capital to continue expanding. I haven’t had many struggles in building a clientele. I’ve been blessed to have a great clientele with clients who have been with me since the beginning.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Altogether Lovely story. Tell us more about the business.
Altogether Lovely Inc. is a versatile establishment (Beauty Salon, Hair distributor, Educational Center, and Ministry). We provide proper hair care and we impart hair and product knowledge through educational opportunities and through services rendered. We are a family-oriented salon and since our company opened its doors in 1996, we’ve treated every client like they were a part of our family. We have 6 stylist all of which have their own specialty. Our services include Natural Hair, Braids, weaves, Locs, twist, relaxer, color and much more. We also specialize in the treatment of those suffering from Alopecia/hair loss. We are most proud of how we provide attractive and quality hair products and services at affordable prices and help those with hair and scalp issues. Our services are the best, and always come with a personal touch!
