Today we’d like to introduce you to James Mastrino.

Thanks for sharing your story with us James. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
So…..amazingly I had no desire or intention to be a DJ.

I had just finished my 4 years’ service in the U.S. Air Force (in Germany & Italy) immediately after high school and landed a job working as a mail man for the Postal Service……..Hated it!

I just figured…my life would be allocated to working a government job. Well a good friend @ the Postal Service was telling me how he was making extra money DJ-ing weddings and told me I should do it because of my personality. I was like…..’I have no idea what to do?’… I auditioned and was in this companies DJ rotation.

Nervously…I had done a few weddings and the owner…asked me what I was doing…as clients were now only asking for me personally. (I really still did not know what I was I doing! but I loved the family reactions!!)

The pay working for a company was ok…..but then I discovered professional DJs were commanding way more.

I bought my own equipment….made myself a legitimate company, practiced mixing, reading a crowd, voice control….meeting with just amazing brides and grooms to find out what exactly they wanted for their big day! Just started making a name for myself.

I combined ultra-low pricing….with ultra-high production & unparalleled customer service/satisfaction. It is a cocktail that has been proved to be highly successful as I book solid…. a year out.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have to say I have been really lucky! Of course I had dry spells when starting out. Also….financing can be tricky staying on top of the latest gear and competition.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DJUj Mobile Music Lights & Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.
Well…..It has really grown for one and really boosted my confidence as well….not that I did not have it before…..but when you own your business….and this is your passion & living….It is frightening but at the same time feels soooooo amazing!!

So….I have been very proud to be able to do this, raise a family…..and do pretty well financially doing something I am so passionate about.

I provide and am known for providing….ultra-low cost….ultra-high production wedding/corporate DJ and lighting services.

Because it’s just me…..as opposed to a larger DJ company….a bride gets a highly experienced, well versed wedding DJ….right out of the box. Many of the companies have their A… DJ’s but book them out and some unsuspecting brides end up getting stuck with a DJ who has little or no experience….never conducive to a great wedding.

Plus ALL of my brides get my personal # and can always feel free to contact me any time with any questions or concerns. I get really great feedback on that…which has translated to over 300 5 star reviews,,,,,between……Wedding Wire…( Couple’s Choice Awards winner 4 years in a row!…2014,2015,2016,2017) Yelp,,,,The Knot, Google & my own website.

Plus my price is really unbeatable!!!!!!!!!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Hmmmmnn. I guess I was lucky to have met my friend who got me into DJ business….but I am a firm believer in doing your homework to be prepared for…..opportunity more than luck.

A great analysis of that would just be taking…. (Nerd alert!)…. Batman. Human….no super human powers…..however…..he does his research….. Due diligence and….behold…..he can take out….Superman!

I could talk superhero stuff all day….but I digress……….

The following are for weddings, onsite ceremonies are always included at no additional cost. $200 for a spectacular up lighting package!
Friday – $675
Saturday – $775
Sunday – $575
This is for unlimited time….no hidden or extra fees at all.
***I do charge an extra $100 for weddings in the immediate downtown Chicago area.
