Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercedes Parrilli.
Mercedes, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Originally from Argentina, I moved to Chicago with my family when I was seven years old. Initially, I had a successful career in the fashion industry for 25 years. In 2014, my family moved to Hong Kong for three years when my husband was relocated for a job opportunity. During this time, I worked for the Hong Kong school system tutoring children in Spanish. The experience allowed me to reflect on my childhood years in the US and how tutoring gave me a successful transition to the American school system.
Once we moved back to Chicago I was eager to help students and share my experiences. I decided to start an academic solutions company that can address the needs of all students in Chicago. My objective is to provide high quality, affordable and convenient tutoring while working with schools and local communities to ensure our students are receiving the support they need to succeed.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Relocating my family twice in 3 years was challenging for me both personally and professionally. On a personal level, it took time to adjust to life in a new country.
Professionally, I walked away from a successful career that I knew very well to pursue a field outside of my comfort zone. Upon return to the US, it also took time to adjust to the change and my new career.

I think the main thing that separates us from similar companies is our ability to meet the educational needs of all types of students. We also strive to provide affordable and flexible tutoring options by conducting the sessions in the students home.
I am most proud of the positive results we are seeing in our students and the ability to make peoples lives better.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I believe the best lessons you will learn is from the mistakes you make along the way. Fortunately, I do not think I would do anything differently at this point. I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue a career I am passionate about.
