Meet Wendy Uhlman and Steve Zieverink of Hearth & Market by Live Station Farm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Uhlman and Steve Zieverink.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Wendy and Steve. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Live Station Farm is an organic, specialty producer located in SW Michigan with the goal of growing the best tasting, most nutrient-dense food possible. We apply permaculture techniques and practice bio-diversity by working with native fauna, Fenn prairie restoration and bees for pollination.

Hearth & Market bridges the farm with the city, to increase access to exceptional, healthy and good tasting food, produce and products! We began this project by combining a love of cooking with the desire to grow healthy food for ourselves, and it quickly evolved into a service as more Chicagoans wanted to be a part of it!

Our menu changes each week based on seasonal availability at our organic farm and other local farms. You can see a selection of recipes on our sample menu and contact us for today’s offerings.

You can find us at the farmers market in Chicago, breweries in SW Michigan and/or book us for an event! Learn more at our website and email with any questions you may have!

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been many challenges especially related to not having grown up as farmers and getting capital together to start up as well as to continue to grow.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our wood fired menu is a fusion of several influences including Italian heritage, the Chicago culinary scene and our organic farm in Michigan. From our wood-fired pizza, desserts, and bread, to salads and soups, you’ll taste the freshness and richness of local, seasonal food.

Our Neapolitan style, rustic wood-fired pizzas, and salads are made with organic produce from our farm in SW Michigan and other locally sourced organic ingredients. Served featuring a beautiful ‘leopard’ crust with charred edges, the combination of wood fire, traditional Italian recipes, and seasonal farm offerings coalesce in an amazing taste experience!

Our low dome wood-fired oven built in the Neapolitan style is maintained at 1000 degrees to beautifully cook a pizza in 90 seconds. With the taste of the wood fire and warmth of the hearth, we look to combine the old with the new to make the best tasting food possible!

We also sell the products we use at the food truck that come from the farm such as maple syrup, aged vinegars, and handmade wood pizza tools.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is great as people love to eat and are open to new food, but you have to stay on top of being good and having the best service for them to continue to support you!
