Meet Courtney Davis of HER Extensions in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Davis.

Courtney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my company in 2013, after looking for a way to afford a study abroad program in Madrid. I needed extra money to cover my living expenses and coincidently I needed to find good hair extensions.

After realizing that working both of my jobs would not cover my expenses for the next 3 months, I decided that I needed to start an online business, so that I could go to school but still make money without having to be confined to a desk. I paced the floor for months trying to find a product to sell, so I decided to sell extensions after noticing an influx of hair companies that were owned and operated by young adults like me.

I had purchased hair from a company and the quality was very poor so when I set out to sample new extensions and I focused on solving the problem that I had with the extensions I purchased. I encountered profuse shedding and severe tangling with the hair I purchased and I spent hundreds of dollars on it. I wanted my line of extensions to exclude excessive shedding and extreme tangles. As well as provide outstanding customer service.

I worked extremely hard, to build my brand. I worked three jobs to fund my business to buy samples, and pay for marketing. I was serious and dedicated to succeeding at having a great product and service. It took consistency, along with faith to get where I am today.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, the road has not been smoothed. It has been filled with bumps and detours. However, it is rewarding in the end, always. Some struggles that I faced happened when I reached a peak in business. It was easy to wear multiple hats when my company was small, but it became extremely difficult for me to do customer service, marketing, order fulfillment, and management as the business grew.

It required me to restructure my business multiple times and it was complicated, to say the least. With everything moving so fast, I was forced to think quickly and it resulted in a few disappointments which turned out to be valuable lessons. At the time, I couldn’t see it as lessons, it actually took a toll on me personally until I realized that there was room for improvement and my attitude about my “failures” would determine how quickly my circumstances changed. Like the quote says ” your attitude determines your altitude”. I noticed how I feel that sets the tone for how the business will go.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the HER Extensions story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is HER Extensions which is a virgin hair (unprocessed human hair) extensions company. I specialize in high-end hair extensions which are imported from different countries. My company is known for its products being outstanding and it’s service. I am known for being an inspiration to anyone that I encounter. I am the most proud of the opportunity to grow and expand my business. I would have never guessed it would grow so fast, and reach so many people because I had a very limited budget to market when I started. I am proud because I am satisfying the needs of other people and solving a problem in the beauty industry which is my ultimate goal.

What sets HER apart from others is the product, it is true to the description, the hair doesn’t shed excessively, or encounters extreme tangles., plus it’s versatile so it can be styled as desired. Additionally, the service I am hands on with everything associated with my brand. I work every day, before everyone and after. I very passionate about my career.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
Within 5-10 years personally, I would like to be a wife and mother. In addition to a reputable businesswoman. My goal is to invest more in my brand to have salons all over the world, where you can have the extensions installed. as well as become one of the fastest growing e-commerce businesses in the beauty industry.
