Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurie Pawli.
Laurie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From the moment that I learned about Feng Shui, I was hooked! There was a PBS television Special on Feng Shui that was so fascinating, I watched it from beginning to end…. twice! As I listened and watched, the thought kept going through my head, “This is who I am!” From there I took a Feng Shui in a Day Class, attended a worldwide conference of Feng Shui Consultants, and went to CA to receive my Certification. I knew that I had found my passion!!
Feng Shui combines creating peaceful, balanced designs in your home or office environment, which creates the energy to bring about the best life possible for the occupant. My two passions are design and helping others, and Feng Shui is a perfect blend of both!
After becoming a Certified Consultant, the doors opened to begin a school for others to learn to become Certified Feng Shui Consultants. My mother told me that she knew that I would teach from the heart and provide a light approach to a serious subject.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well…. let me say this! Seventeen years ago, when I became a consultant, not many people knew about Feng Shui. So it was a bit of a challenge to explain how the energy flows in our space. However, when people realized that they could “feel” the difference in their space when changes were made, it started to make sense. One of my favorite explanations is “External movement creates internal shift”. When you make a change in your home, your body feels the difference!!
Please tell us about THE FENG SHUI SCHOOL OF CHICAGO.
The Feng Shui School of Chicago teaches classes ranging from Basic Feng Shui to Professional Certification Classes. It combines the type of Feng Shui that is based on the front door of the home, called BTB, and incorporates lessons from my teacher, Grandmaster Professor Lin Yun.
There are also options to have a home consultation, business consultation, or conference presentations. We also have Chinese New Year Celebrations throughout the city and suburbs to welcome the new year.
I’ve been told that my strengths are that I am down to earth and approachable, and can relay information in a practical, understandable manner while using a light-hearted approach.
A unique facet that sets me apart from others is that my classes are “in person”. Also, as a requirement of the Certification process, the class visits a design center to discuss how to apply Feng Shui to furniture and attends homes to perform on-site consultations.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories is sharing time with my mom as she showed me various types of furniture that she was purchasing for our home, and watching her as she created new spaces. She was constantly adding accessories, adding new wall covering and changing paint colors. That conveyed a perfect example. I followed her lead and painted my bedroom myself, created draperies, and added my own wallpaper…. big lavender and green flowers!
