Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Kislov.
Alex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I originally started as an artist/producer coming into the entertainment business. Throwing events since Jr. and Sr. year of High School. I was selling tickets for React, promoting events, djing, and coordinating for a lot of different things – as I grew older, I grew with this line of work. When I was 19 I was offered a position for an event planning company and that’s where I learned about the event curation world. I’ve always had a picture in my mind of throwing large scale, full-production experiences. It was my way of making my childhood dreams adult-friendly. I connected with one of the promoter from Ultra Music Festival in Miami which led me to find my current business partners in New York. About three years ago I approached them with an idea to bring the Good Looks name to Chicago. Initially they turned the idea down due to lack of knowing me and my background; I opened it anyways. Within the first month of launch we had immense support from our community and the New York gang recognized what we were able to accomplish and the potential growth of this company. Now nearly 3 years into operations as an event production, media and marketing company we’ve found ourselves being a multi-faceted company with many capabilities that created a sort of hub which we utilize in all aspect related to entertainment and events.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think creating or operating your own business is ever a smooth road and that’s just part of the process. There’s no real handbook or guidebook on how to do things the right way, it’s a lot of failing and learning from certain processes to see what works. Some of the struggles we faced were losing a business partner in 2016 that set the entire media department on hold. Other times we were either unable to find reliable and suitable employees that were self-motivated or we were spread too thin and didn’t provide the proper training. Either way struggles are like the rise in the step that help you to get to the step of where you want to be. It’s very important for growth and knowledge.

Good Looks Chicago is a team of Chicago Curators with one common goal: to create, develop, and orchestrate every detail of your upcoming event as a full-production experience. Our events cater to the average Chicago nightlife adventurer; the individuals who work hard and party harder. With our exclusive collective, we bring a clean and engaging experience to anything that we bring.
We specialize in that “wow-factor” at events. The wow factor is that moment you’re at an event and something completely wild occurs that makes you say “wow”. Another term we have for it is called the “Holy shit” factor – same concept.
What I am most proud of as a company is that in three short years we established a strong industry presence, we constantly reinvented ourselves over and over when we needed to and for two guys that went to school for Biology and IT – I say we became pretty knowledgeable and understanding business men.
What sets us apart is the professionalism that the entertainment business often lacks and our undeniable energy. We are constantly trying to put new content out, constantly inventing new themes and concepts for events, always fine tuning the system we’ve put into, and apply all of our knowledge into improving every experience.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is great for entertainment and events. Not only is Chicago beautiful, large and yet small and cozy – Chicago has a lot to offer in the networking and business mind-set aspect. It’s like we have the business drive of New-York and the laid back attitude of Los Angeles. People here are supportive of each other and help push you as long as you’re carrying your weight and adding to the bigger picture. I would recommend Chicago for anything business related because of the drive that the “Chicago-machine” has.
