Meet Bindu Kodwaney of iClicU Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bindu Kodwaney.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bindu. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a fun loving tech geek with a passion for fitness, travel and photography.

My philosophy for photography is grounded in the art of visual storytelling. I love capturing moments and turning them into lifelong memories that can be cherished forever.

My favorite kind of photography includes traveling the world, experiencing different cultures and narrating my experiences through pictures.

I am inspired by colors, emotions and love capturing transformation of landscapes through seasons. And speaking of seasons, I grew up in Mumbai, India which has one season, SUMMER and am settled in Chicago, USA which has one seasons WINTER…LOL !!!

I run marathons and practice yoga. I recently learnt inversions and discovered that the world is beautiful even upside down 🙂

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I started as a hobbyist photographer. The transition from being a hobbyist to professional was not easy but I was fortunate to find and work with some great mentors who coached me and did not let me lose confidence when I made mistakes.

My main struggle was finding paying clients who were willing to give an opportunity to an upcoming professional photographer.

Please tell us about iClicU Photography.
My company is iClicU Photography. I spelt it that way because I wanted pay tribute to Steve Jobs who has been my source of inspiration. I follow his principles of simplicity, perfectionism and learning when to say “No”.

I specialize in weddings, family/individual portraits. I also enjoy street photography, shooting landscapes during sunrise/sunset and capturing cityscapes at night.

I am self-taught and am very pleased about the fact that being an engineer by education (being left brained) I have found my right brain and struck a good balance between logic and creativity. I am able to use principles of light, shape and lines to guide my artistic side.

I listen very carefully to people and their needs from me as a photographer and use my experience to get the best possible results. I do lot of ground work in advance like scouting locations, determining the best light conditions and having backup plans for inclement weather. I am easy going and friendly to work with and can bring out the best in people who are not comfortable being photographed.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I am who I am today because of the journey I have been through. I would not change anything as my experiences have helped me grow. If anything, I wish I had started photography earlier in life.
