Meet Cameron Smith of G&O, Aberdeen Tap, Avondale Tap and Green Room Tap

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Smith.

Cameron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working in prep kitchens when I was 14 years old in upstate New York. Since then, I’ve worked in all types of kitchens all over the country, from New York to California. I can’t think of anything else I would rather do so to be the Culinary Director of four neighborhood pubs, Aberdeen Tap, G&O, The Green Room Tap, and Avondale Tap, it feels like I’ve come full circle.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to becoming a chef was a challenging one full of many hurdles and challenges. I just kept grinding and learning as much as I could from each chef I worked with along the way. I have now been a chef for 10 years and continue to learn every day.

G&O, Aberdeen Tap, Avondale Tap and Green Room Tap – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our group is continuing to grow everyday. We opened two new locations this year and are on pace to open another location next year! We are bringing the neighborhood bar back! We specialize in putting our twist on American Pub classics and are best known for our Fried Mac & Cheese Squares and award-winning Chicken Wings!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least about our city?
I love Chicago for the food scene and the people who support it! I have moved away from the city three times and keep coming back… What’s not to love about Chicago?
