Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Watanabe.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
3 years ago I started working with my co-founder, Lisa Aguilar. We were part of the launch of the Employee Wellness Program at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL. We have been developing a variety of wellness offerings for the staff and faculty over the past three years. But we saw need greater than what we could address in our day jobs.
Larger organizations had wellness programs, but many times there were limits on what could be offered. Then we began to look at the entrepreneur and small business. As entrepreneurs ourselves, we were excited about all the great ideas in business people were offering. However, we found that these people had very little in place to keep themselves well. We could see the stress and pull in the work/life balance. We knew we could help!
So we created Wings of Fire Consulting, LLC. We design and offer innovative wellness experiences, and bring them to the entrepreneur and the small business. We start in the co-working environment. As the entrepreneur designs their well life, they are able to build a strong business. We follow that entrepreneur as they grow and offer wellness services to their employees as well. Being proactive is what will help support the entrepreneur and illuminate a path to success!

We struggle with the same issues as any startup: time, money, work/life balance. Yet this is a world where have developed the skill-set to minimize the pain.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wings of Fire Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
There are many wellness businesses in the marketplace. You can find the word wellness attached to anything from dog food to bathroom fixtures! What sets us apart is our years of experience and our approach.
My background is Wellness Coaching and Personal Training. I am an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, which is the gold standard. I am also a Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. I am one of 1100 coaches in the country with this designation.
Lisa has been a Licensed Massage Therapist for over 20 years and is also a Certified Wellness Practitioner. She has owned her own wellness business, developed her own products and brought them to market. She has taken her passion for dance and yoga instruction and transformed them into a combination of Art and Movement Therapy options that connect, mind, body, and spirit.
We are both professors at the College of Lake County as well as Master Trainers in several published workshops.
The volume of our education and experience is what allows us to offer more than the standard wellness menu. We can create any program, personal to each client or business, to transform lives! Our coaching styles complement each other in a way that empowers others to succeed.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Wellness is a hot topic. What used to be an afterthought is now becoming front and center in people’s lives. There is a major shift happening in where people are tired of taking a pill to solve a pain. We can work towards prevention, and potentially eliminate the things in our lives that are holding us back.
Our market entry point is in desperate need of our services. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. We expect to be national if not international in the next 5-10 years.

- Workshops start at $100, which include literature and certification.
