Thanks for sharing your story with us Pete. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Two of my partners, Larry Budnik and Jay White, came up with the idea of opening a clean, professional, state of the art training facility, shooting range and retail store. I was originally uninterested, however, after studying the concept, I agreed it would be a great project to manage.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Similar to many new businesses and construction projects, we had myriad obstacles. We had construction delays due to soil compaction issues and weather and permitting issues with a neighboring village. In addition, my partners and I all had careers and trying to manage the project on a part-time basis is cause for a slow schedule as well. None of us had any experience building or managing this type of facility/business and its taken time to get past the learning curve.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Range at 355 story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a training facility, shooting range and firearm retail store. Our goal is to provide law abiding citizens, with training for shooting sports and personal protection. Our instructors are active and retired Illinois State Police and local police officers that have vast experience.
We are known for our professionalism, knowledgeable staff, clean, state of the art facility and product selection. A lot of planning went into the design and construction of our facility. We have two modern classrooms and two-eight lane shooting ranges designed to handle pistols, shotguns and modern sporting rifles.
We also host the Chicago Western Suburban chapter of the Well-Armed Woman shooting club and the Range at 355 Women’s Shooting Club.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
It seems that our partners have had guardian angels looking out for us, however, the key to this project has been working as a team, hard work and determination. All of these elements, combined with good timing, have helped our business set a course for success.
