Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Schechter.
Rachel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a love for fashion and realized from an early age my true passion was being able to work with people. I love following trends and became known as a style guru amongst my friends. I studied marketing in college and followed up with getting a Masters in Education. I had the opportunity to stay home with my kids and as they grew, I started working with women to style and accessorize them. It was then that I saw a gap in the market for personalized shopping and wanted to see how to make it bigger and better. There was a need for boutique styling services at affordable prices. I have always dreamed of owning my own business and the timing was right for our family.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall it has been very exciting! Of course, there were minor bumps in the road with regards to the timing of everything. That included construction, getting inventory and merchandising the store. Luckily, we have hired a strong team and have had a very successful opening.
Please tell us about Apricot Lane The Glen.
Apricot Lane is a franchise located out of California. Our boutiques are one of a kind shopping experience, uniquely designed and merchandised with the latest fashion apparel, jewelry, handbags, accessories and gifts in the styles and trends customers are looking for. As the owner of Apricot Lane The Glen, I do all the buying for the store, sourcing product from LA, New York, and local Chicago vendors. We carry several brands made from entrepreneurs in our community which gives us the opportunity to support local businesses like our own. We also carry a selection of items that give back to charitable organizations. This is what we are most proud of. We also pride ourselves on our personal service in helping customers choose the perfect outfit or gift. We get new inventory every day, so you will always see something new. Not only do we carry the latest fashion trends in a boutique setting, but we do it all with affordable pricing.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories of childhood were spending the summers with my family in Michigan and Wisconsin. I loved spending time by the lake. Summer is my favorite time of the year!
