Carrie founded Veritas Fine Art Appraisals & Consulting in 2007. He has a B.A. and and M.A. in Art History and received her formal Appraisal Accreditation Education through Northwestern University. Veritas has evolved into a leading Chicago based full service fine art appraisal firm with affiliate specialists in all major collecting categories (fine art, antiques, etc). Veritas’s core philosophy is rooted in creating a truly transparent experience for every client.
Has it been a smooth road?
Most appraisers start out as an independent appraiser. This was the road I took as well buy my goal was to grow Veritas into a full service firm. We have done that and now have the capability to appraise objects from all major collecting categories (antiques, fine art, jewelry, etc). We achieved this by partnering with an outstanding group of specialists. In addition, building a client base was difficult but extremely rewarding. Even though we have a website and are active with marketing, our primary source of business lies primarily with referrals. Referrals are extremely rewarding as we are re-assured that there are many entities out there who hold Veritas in high enough regards to refer their valued clients.

We are most proud of our client satisfaction. The art world is notoriously opaque. This is part of what makes it exciting, but it also can instill hesitancy with the client. We strive to create a transparent client experience from the get go by openly listing our fees on our website and having a thorough dialogue with the potential client first so that they are getting the most out of our services for their money. We also pride ourselves on extensive experience and knowledge in our related areas of specialty.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes Chicago and the surrounding areas is a fantastic city for Veritas. Chicagoans are proud of their rich cultural heritage and we are surrounded by fine arts at almost every turn in this city. In addition, Our galleries and collectors are outstanding and I feel have an identity unique to anywhere else in the US. I thought this years EXPO at the Pier was a testament to that.
