Today we’d like to introduce you to Hank Ebeling.
Hank, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been active as I played sports in high school and throughout my youth. It was in high school that I started developing a passion for working and fitness and began thinking of my dream of opening my own gym. In college, I started working in different gym settings and further developed my love for the field of fitness. Once I graduated I started to work at a high-end gym in the city called Equinox. It was there when I was exposed to quality personal training and a very high-end gym experience. During my 6 plus years, I was a top 10% producing trainer in the company and spent some time in management. I have always wanted to open my own business and bring the quality of training I thought lacked in most gyms. It was in 2013 that I decided to make the leap and start H4 Training.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Owning a business is never smooth. Building and growing your client base takes time and work and has its ups and downs. You are always making mistakes and learning.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the H4 Training story. Tell us more about the business.
H4 Training specializes in individualized personal training done in a small group setting. We are known for our metabolic strength training full body workouts. I started the gym with our 3 C’s in mind. That is CARE, COMMITMENT and COMMUNITY. You can say it’s kind of our core values but it is what our entire business is based on. We will care more than any other facility about you, we will be fully committed to you and your goals and we will provide a fun and welcoming fitness community! The best thing about H4 is all our workouts can be scaled and can fit any fitness level or age. No matter who you are we can provide you with the right fitness experience. The thing I am most proud of is our H4 community. We really have built a very welcoming and fun workout experience that leads the way in customer service. We now have two locations in Wheaton & Geneva.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck always play a role. If I did not get my initial job at Equinox I might not have ever learned some of the training/management skills to help me along the way. I also met some great people who later became valuable connections in business.
