Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Spaeth.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Courtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When my husband, kids and I moved to the Kenosha area in 2010, we didn’t have friends or family down here so it was a little lonely. Having worked in a natural food/supplement store for a few years and having a background in Holistic Nutrition, I was somewhat familiar with ingredients and “clean” products vs. not-so-clean versions. My oldest was starting 4th grade at the time and I had a 6 month old at home with me and although I was very fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom, I wanted to help contribute financially to the family so I began coming up with formulas for body and skincare products. Mother’s Day was right around the corner so I made my mom, mother-in-law and my sister lip balm, body spray and bath salts and they really enjoyed the products. Soon, others had asked me for products and I started buying ingredients in bulk, spent hours upon hours getting the products just right and started selling on ETSY and local health/craft fairs. I wanted to really expand my knowledge of skincare and how products affect the overall health of the skin so I enlisted in the Esthetics course at The Salon Professional Academy here in Kenosha. I was offered a job before I was even finished with my training and was the only Esthetician at the salon. I had to learn everything outside of my training for myself, I didn’t have anyone to show me the ropes. After 1 year in 2015, I left and opened up my own 1 room spa where I was able to sell my own body and skincare line along with GLO Skin Beauty and I was offering skincare treatments and waxing. Within a few months of opening, I had a 2 month waiting list and was able to hire 2 other estheticians and “pay it forward” with sharing my knowledge of everything that I had learned working in the industry thus far. In 2016, I relocated and expanded to offer full salon and beauty treatments including hair and nail services. I hired 2 stylists and another esthetician, expanded my own services to include Elleebana Lash Lift, Dermaplaning and Microblading! I feel very fortunate to have come so far within a few years but I really have an amazing staff behind me and I wouldn’t have been able to make it without them! I believe God has led me to where I am today and has much more in store for me. My faith has helped me tremendously to overcome some very stressful times where I didn’t think I could endure much more. TRE Beauty Studio was nominated as 1 of the top 5 best salons in Kenosha County, it was quite an honor seeing as how we were fairly new as a company. My husband and kids (now 16, 7 & 4) have been very patient and supportive throughout this entire journey. I look forward to the next few years and seeing where our little studio takes us!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, it has been a very rough winding road that, at times, I wanted off of! My parents gave me a $2500 loan to initially start out. My grandpa was an entrepreneur and my dad took over his business in real estate, my brother works for himself and I felt a strong desire to do the same. My husband took a different job and was traveling each week, flying out Monday and home Thursdays so with 3 kids in sports and school and trying to run an expanded business, it was a rollercoaster a lot of the times. I honestly don’t know how I held it together! My husband and I used our savings and refinanced our home in order to personally finance this expansion and open the doors to TRE Beauty Studio. Whatever obstacle was placed in front of me, I really took a step back, prayed then proceeded forward. Each time, we’ve busted through those obstacles and it pushed us forward just a bit more.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about TRE Beauty Studio – what should we know?
TRE Beauty Studio is a small 1,400 sq. ft. studio with 3 styling stations, 2 treatments room and a mani/pedi room. Our concept is rustic chic with the styling area wall covered with distressed “barnwood” that is enhanced with 7 ft. beautiful chic mirrors. Everyone who walks through our doors is treated like an old friend. We pride ourselves on getting to know every client on a personal level, not just a professional level; It makes the clients feel like they are more than just “a client”, makes them feel at home and I believe it’s what sets us apart from other salons. Our service list includes Dermaplaning, Full Body Waxing, Rapid Results Skincare Treatments, Lash Enhancements, Hair and Nail services. We have been offering the Lash Lift since early 2016 and TRE Beauty Studio is the first in the Kenosha County and surrounding area to offer the service. We have a lot of clients drive over an hour to see us because they have been so dissatisfied from other places near them and were so happy when they discovered TRE Beauty.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Our down-to-earth personalities. We are always up-front and honest with clients about treatment options and retail purchases. We will never try to sell clients products if we don’t feel it will benefit the client. We are not pushy or aggressive with our suggestions and I feel that clients trust us that much more because they know it’s not just about a “sale”, money or meeting our goals. Clients are able to relate to us more because we give them a glimpse into our personal life as well and it generates a lot of interesting conversations!
