Meet Eileen Washington of Superstars Styling Studio in West Suburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eileen Washington.

Eileen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up on the west side of Chicago, I started my hustle on the block where I grew up . I use to braid all the lil girls’ hair on the block and was paid for it. By me being the oldest and my mom working 2 jobs, I had to keep my 2 little sisters’ hair combed as well. Later on when I went off to college at Grambling State University, I had clients on campus to make extra money. I spent 2 years in college and I felt like the college life jus wasn’t for me all the while still doing hair. After the 2 years I came home and decided to attend beauty school, So I enrolled in Pivot Point as a full time student to obtain my cosmetology license. After graduating from pivot point I went on to work in my first hair salon which was located on the south side of Chicago. Several years later I decided to get my own salon for the second time. the first time I gave up having a salon because I couldn’t take the pressure of having my own business and the responsibility of it all. In 2011 I started my own salon again with 2 friends, later on friends started seeking other avenues and I was left with my own salon, 6 years later imp still in business. I started making custom wigs about 3 years ago which is the highlight of my business right now. I came up with the slogan “No Such Thing as A Bad Hair Day. I planning on changing the way women”n view wigs, often times when u say wigs the immediately start thinking about wigs in the beauty supply, but a custom wig is designed to fit you and the structure of your face and often times people can’t even tell u have a wig on. I’m also the owner of Star N U virgin hair line, I’m working on developing my own product line. I’m also working on my refurbished hairline.

Has it been a smooth road?
The struggles was going into business with friends and trying to keep consistent people to work for you.

Superstars is a barber and beauty salon that specialize in men an d women hair care. We do men cut, dyes facials, skin treatments for women the majority of my business caters to Sew ns and custom wigs. I also specialize in color and the dyeing the weave for my clients.

I’m most known for my Custom wigs. I am my own client because I wear my own custom wigs everyday. As a wig maker I feel like I have more insight on my wigs because I actually wear them. so with each wig I make I can make the client feel secure with the fit of the wigs and to make the client feel secure while wearing my wigs.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is a city full of major talent and entrepreneurs from different walks of life . I do believe Chicago will be great for your business. If you don’t mind grinding hard than Chicago is the place for you. granted all industries are over saturated but there’s still room to make money if u work hard.
