Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Pickleman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jason. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I became a graphic designer through my interest and relationships with the Chicago art scene. I love going to galleries, talking about art, looking at art, and buying art. Now my professional life revolves around just that!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have the best-looking studio in the city. Beautiful light. Beautiful space. Because of that, I LOVE coming to work every day. Because of that, I’ve had no struggles to speak of.
JNL graphic design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a graphic design studio. We create visual identities for cultural institutions and entrepreneurs with a creative bent. We create on-going relationships with our clients, doing both the high-end visual identity work and the low-end bang-em out eBlasts. We’ve created the visual landscape for Expo Chicago, a giant art fair, and we’ve created the branding for Skinny Pop Popcorn. I love going to the convenient store and seeing our work on the shelves. We’ve designed visual campaigns for the Poetry Foundation, and extensive branding for Chicago’s coolest restaurants (avec, BigStar). When a bus goes by with our work blazoned across it, I’m proud to be a Chicagoan.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Dancing at Smart Bar, Chicago’s coolest nightclub, and the owner coming onto the dance floor to shake my hand. And free drink tickets.
