Meet Jennifer Mercier of Expect A Miracle and Mercier Therapy Professional Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Mercier.

Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During my undergrad training in pre-med in 1992, I started working for a large reproductive endocrinology clinic as a clinician. My long term goal was to finish med school, start an OB/Gyn residency and proceed into a reproductive endocrinology fellowship program. Working as a clinician in the fertility clinic helped me gain a solid understanding into that branch of medicine and to also recognize its shortcomings and benefits.

As time passed, I learned that studying medicine seemed furthest from what I actually felt called to do. I went to massage therapy school during my last year of college and discovered that I really loved bodywork. Once finished with the massage program I attended a course called Bodywork for the Childbearing Year. I enjoyed it so much that it had ignited a fire in my belly to be in a role as a doula and eventually midwife/naturopath.

By the time I was 26 I had received the diagnosis of endometriosis. My pelvic pain was so intense so searched for a solution in which to help me. The only answer that medicine could give was to be on the birth control pill so I took it for many years while suffering with other issues such as debilitating headaches and excessive weight gain along with the occasional pelvic pain.

Finally after my third laparoscopy at age 35, I was told that my pelvic organs were in bad shape and that I would need to proceed with IVF. This was not on my radar at all. Miraculously, I had a group of my Mercier Therapy Professional Training students work on me and the next cycle I was pregnant naturally. I was in disbelief given the grim prognosis.

I have been teaching other professionals how to implement Mercier Therapy into their practices since 2006 and have had a successful private practice for over 16 years. I have written and published research, authored Women’s Optimal Pelvic Health with Mercier Therapy and produced a documentary film called Fertility: The Shared Journey with Mercier Therapy.

I love my work!

Has it been a smooth road?
There are always naysayers or husbands who think I am a “witch doctor” but that’s okay because those people typically become the best advocates for Mercier Therapy.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Expect A Miracle and Mercier Therapy Professional Training story. Tell us more about the business.
Expect A Miracle specializes in Fertility and Pelvic Pain for women but I do also work with men. Mercier Therapy has grown in to many countries around the world and this makes me very happy knowing that women outside of the US have access to receiving Mercier Therapy as well.

There are no other entities like us. None. The questions have been asked with concern to how we compare with other modalities and we’re not talking apples to apples. Mercier is completely unique.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see exponential growth in Mercier moving all over the world. My plan is to write another book and possibly make another documentary discussing IVF all over the world. I think that the consumer is becoming very wise concerning their options for treatment and may want to try a more gentle approach first. I feel it!
