Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Pastorelli.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Snappy Paws ten years ago. At that time I had just left a job in the culinary field. I was also recently divorced and a newly single parent to three small children. I was looking for a change in career that would allow more flexibility and to have more time at home with my children.
Dogs have always been a huge part of my life. I absolutely adore them! I went to work for a couple of dog walking services in the city. After a fairly brief period of time, I realized that I wanted to bring a caring and professional service to my neighborhood, the far Northwest Side.
That’s how Snappy Paws was born! Ten years later we continue to offer the same level of customer service that we have always prided ourselves on. Our clients are our neighbors and we are honored to be caring for their pets.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running Snappy Paws has been a dream come true! I feel that any small business owner can attest to the many rewards and challenges one faces. As someone who truly enjoys learning and growing, I have welcomed the challenges that have come our way. The more we learn, the better we are able to service our clients and their needs.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Snappy Paws – what should we know?
Snappy Paws is a dog walking service working with clients that reside on the far Northwest Side of the city. The neighborhood that I have called home for the past 25 years. We specialize in daily dog walks with an emphasis on customer care. We cater to the specific needs of our clients. Where the majority of clients require only a standard daily walk, some require a different arrangement. We work with dogs that are ailing or have special needs as well as with clients who do not work a traditional 9-5 job or have schedules that change.
We provide a very personalized level of care and that is the way I feel it should be. Our clients are not a number on a key, they are our neighbors and we treat their pets as we would our own. I am a very hands on owner. Even as we have grown over the years, it is important to me that I know my clients and their pets. We have an absolutely incredible team of dog walkers that make everything we do possible. Together we work hard to provide a high level of care and service to our clients.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We have worked really hard to get where we are today. Without our amazing dog walkers and our incredible clients, we wouldn’t be where we are today. I owe so much thanks to them. I am endlessly grateful for their loyalty and support. We also have a fabulous “pack leader” named Gloria who has been with us for the past four years. She works diligently in training our walkers to be the best they can be. Her hard work makes all of us better.
There’s also our wonderful office manager Kristin. She helps to ensure our days run smoothly by working with the clients scheduling needs as well as a myriad of other tasks. Gloria and Kristin are both huge assets to our team and I am incredibly fortunate to be able work with them each day!
