Meet Melissa Vardy of Dog Training Now in Schaumburg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Vardy.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We have always loved dogs and grew up around them. After we adopted our own two from the shelter life in 2010/2011, we knew we wanted to help as many as we can to have the best life they can. Dan’s background is in motorsports. He was an engineer with NASCAR and IndyCar teams until this summer, but that industry, while interesting, is very very demanding, and we wanted a lifestyle change to something we loved!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’re very new to the world of business ownership (though Dog Training Now has been in business since 2013, we purchased it just 2 months ago), but it’s been a very interesting process to say the least! We got lucky because the staff are a group of extremely talented, committed individuals, which has made the transition much easier than it otherwise could have been. The most challenging part has been resisting the temptation to play with puppies all day when there are business ownership duties calling our names.

Dog Training Now – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At Dog Training Now, we specialize in obedience training, and establishing a line of communication between the dog and the owner. Using a balanced training approach, we have helped over 2,000 dogs graduate from our studio! We strongly believe that a well-trained dog is set up for a good life because the owners can now clearly communicate expectations, leading to a much closer pet/owner relationship. We’re thrilled when previously exasperated clients say things like “going on walks are fun now!”.

What were you like growing up?
Melissa: Growing up, I loved dogs! I was always volunteering at shelters, helping out with friends/family dogs from a very young age. I went to school for Business Administration and Management, so owning a business was also on my radar.

Dan: Growing up, motorsports was always my focus. I went to school for mechanical engineering with the intent on being full-time in professional racing, before I realized just how demanding that lifestyle is.
