Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Gosselin.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I first started playing guitar in 1986 and within a few years, I was very interested in recording. A friend brought a 4 track over to our jamroom (1990) and we recorded a few songs. I enjoyed it so much, I went and bought my own Yamaha 4-track and began recording bands in my hometown of Lewiston, Maine. I eventually moved to Austin, Texas in 2000 and began to learn much more about recording and did some internships there. Throughout the 2000’s, I began recording in world class studios like Omni Sound in Nashville, TN and Dizzyland Recording in Rochester, NH. This really got me curious as to how things were really done and I started my own small studio in Champaign, IL.
Fast forward to 2014, at 45 years old, I decided to get my degree from SAE Institute in Chicago, IL in Audio Production. My studio is now in Homewood, IL and I have done huge amounts of work with my band Fierce Atmospheres and have worked with many of Chicago’s top players. Bands like Judas Rising, Leproso, Guardsman, Jailbreak Chicago, Lords of Meat and many more have tracked and/or mixed with me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is slow sometimes and then I will have many things going at once. I suppose it is like most businesses in that sense. Feast or famine I suppose.
Please tell us about Edge of Satellites Music Production.
At Edge of Satellites, we do anything from tracking bands live, to mixing old tracks. I recently had a project from a metal band called Lords of Meat that had tracks from 20+ years ago they wanted remixed. That is now out on CD through a label in Greece. I also custom write music for people needing it for film or anything else. I can also assist bands in writing their material. I do live and recording session guitar work when needed and also work with many other musicians that are open to freelance recording, etc. if there is a need.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Getting KISS records from my folks and blasting them on the turntable….
