Iris Botanicals was born in the kitchen of Iris Nichole Patterson in 2014. Iris suffered from a terrible case of tension alopecia just months before her wedding because of a careless removal of glued in hair extensions. The removal left her bald around her hairline. In great distress, Iris decided to do research on different methods to stimulate hair growth. In her research, she discovered many recipes using essentials oils along with carrier oils to stimulate her active hair follicles and trigger full growth in just a year’s time. Iris formulated a jar of hair food that’s packed with 7 powerhouse essential oils and protein to help strengthen the hair shaft. The Rejuvenating Hair Butter was the first of her many recipes for the hair.
After sharing her story on social media customers flooded her inbox and timeline. She’s now in 4 local Whole Foods stores in the city of Chicago. Iris has helped a numerous amount of women restore alopecia and reverse their damaged her. It’s her chief goal to restore the esteem of women and they feel beautiful again.
Iris was recently interviewed by the Chicago Tribune for the second time and will be featured as a small business honoree at the one year anniversary celebration for Whole Foods Englewood by Mayor Rahm Emmanuel.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. A lot of trial and error occurred while creating my formulations. My hair butter kept melting in the summer heat leaving me to have a lot of replacement orders. It wasn’t until I found my business coach, Shelby Parchman who’s a chemist that I was able to fix my formulation. It was then when I felt confident enough to stand before Whole Foods and pitch my product without anxiety. He saved me tons of money as well. I no longer had to mail out a ton of replacement orders.

Iris Botanicals is an all-natural sulfate free hair care line that focuses on hair restoration. We can only help those with active hair follicles. I am known for “restoring edges’ as my customers say. My most popular hair product is the Rejuvenating Hair Butter. It combats dryness and restores hair loss in active hair follicles. My products are infused with lots of hair food. Each product is infused with a number of essential oils that feed the hair follicle causing it to strengthen the hair shaft and thicken the hair.
I have an Aloe Coconut clarifying shampoo and Honey and Olive Oil conditioner both infused with Rosemary and Ylang Ylang essential oils. My Hair Butter has 7 essential oils and 5 carrier oils that breathe life into the hair!
My proudest moments were when both a cancer and kidney patient shared their stories of how their hair was restored. I knew that my purpose was bigger than my own hair loss.
What were you like growing up?
I was always creative as a child. I used to daydream all of the time as a little girl. I was a teen mom. I gave birth to my one and only at the age of 16. High School became a constant struggle at that time in my life. I barely passed my first-period class. It was difficult to keep up with many of my studies and raise a child. I made it out of school by the skin of my teeth. The most amazing thing is that the very first Whole Foods location I was placed in is in the neighborhood I grew up in. I was born and raised in Englewood and now I am being honored there as a small business.
