Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A former member of the navy, and a father of 2 sons, I decided to pursue my dreams as a business owner and being a car fanatic, opening up a car dealer felt like a great choice. I established my business in 1982 in Chicago Heights Illinois, soon after settling down at my prime, I had as many as 5 car lots. After many ups and downs in the car business and being in my later years in life, I currently only have one car lot which is located in Steger Illinois. Along the way I have had two guard dogs, which I have loved dearly after my first one passed away years ago, I raised the one I currently have (Tess) since she was a puppy. She is currently 13 years old and many of our repeat customers also love to see her when they visit us.
Has it been a smooth road?
The ups and downs of the car business, slow months, mechanical problems and financial problems have been the bumps in the road that we have faced over the years. Dealing with upset customers can also be a problem.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Town and Country Motors story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a small used car dealership that sells affordable cars at great prices. We don’t overprice cars. We price them below Kelly blue book value. Since our establishment in 1982, customers have recognized us as a place that doesn’t overprice its vehicles, leading to many repeat customers.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The biggest challenge for our business would be the advancement of technology in cars. As a small business, cost of fixing cars may become a concern as technology will make it more costly. One other major change is that the consumer is looking for more foreign cars rather than domestic cars.
