Today we’d like to introduce you to Patti Komara.
Patti, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My mom said if I wanted to go to college I would have to work. So, I started my own tumbling school the summer after my sophomore year in high school with 36 students. That was 1969 and now have 1500 students and have become a national speaker and expert for the gymnastics industry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh, there have been struggles, but nothing huge. I have had eight teachers leave and start their own gymnastics school in our area. Competition has hurt the enrollment numbers, but have still managed to increase profits every year in an upward climb.
Please tell us about Patti’s All-American.
Patti’s All-American offers gymnastics, dance, swim, Ninja Zone, and educational preschool for children. We specialize in instructional gymnastics and have no competitive teams. We are most proud of the fact that the local residents have named us #1 Best of the Region Gymnastics School every year since the inception of the contest in 1994. We have been named Best Dancing School for the last three years.
What sets us apart from other gym schools are two things:
1. We have a loving, caring staff that is committed to making our customers so happy they leave with a love of the sport of gymnastics and also a need for lifelong fitness.
2. With internationally known gymnastics expert, Patti Komara, the owner, we have the latest info on the sport of gymnastics and also the business of running a gymnastics school. Our Vice President of Sales, Rhonda Zaluckyj, is a national instructor and also speaks at regional and national conventions for USA Gymnastics.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
One thing I have done that has aided in my high profit margin is that I have stayed in a small facility and kept expenses so low. If I were to do it over again, I would build a little bit larger facility.
On a personal level, I would have gotten an onsite supervisor many years ago and not felt like I had to be there so much at night taking time away from my family.
