Meet Asya Brodsky of Speak Chicago Psychotherapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asya Brodsky.

Asya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was one of those people lucky enough to have figured out a career path early on in life. I was the girl in college who told everyone I wanted to find a way to talk about sex and maybe one day, open my own practice. I specifically sought out experiences in the realm of sexuality while also working toward my clinical social work degree, and opened Speak Chicago Psychotherapy in 2015 as a blend of those experiences peppered with the utmost respect, passion and commitment to the profession. I find an immense amount of satisfaction from my career, and I feel humbled to continuously learn from my patients and my mentors.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t know one business owner that hasn’t had their fair share of struggles, let alone a psychotherapy business owner. It takes learning through mistakes to navigate business operations, as well as a solid dedication in the value of your work. Once you have that down and you find a way to convey that message to others, people find their way to you.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Speak Chicago Psychotherapy is a sexuality focused psychotherapy practice for adolescents and adults. I specialize in the areas of sex therapy, sexual trauma and sexual identity development, but also provide general relationally focused treatment. I’m incredibly proud of many elements of my practice, the most paramount being the authentic bond that is created on the basis of a shared human connection.

What were you like growing up?
I have always had a high level of energy and understood the importance of receiving attention and being heard by others. So often in conversation, we perceive the words, but miss the deeper meaning of someone’s message. I channel my personality in treatment to attune to patient’s stories and honor the transformative power of a deeply personal and mutually intimate therapeutic relationship.
