Meet Gary Ricke of Orbis Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Ricke.

Gary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I left the family plastics business in 1995 to join a friend in starting an online portal for the plastics industry called PlasticsNet. Seeing a much bigger opportunity in the emerging digital landscape, I left PlasticsNet to start my company, Orbis Design in 1998.

Our focus in the beginning was engineering the most dynamic and creative content management system in an effort similar to Gutenberg in enabling our clients the ability to stake their presence in developing online world.

We evolved into open source software offering tens of thousands of content management apps and began building much more robust and industrial strength web applications for small organizations to publicly traded companies serving millions of people.

Within the last year, we opened up the most unique and exciting approach to digital communications in developing an approach for building web sites in real-time.

Taking the techniques we’ve evolved over the years for the code architecture of web sites, we applied those to the capture and building of content and have pioneered a truly revolutionary approach to in-the-moment storytelling and digital engagement.

The stories we’ve been capturing in just the last 6 months feels like the most important of my entire career.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The economic downturn of the late 2000s was for us, like many a very challenging time but also transformative into the lean and agile organization we’ve become.

Digital is ideal for collaboration and has helped us become what I describe as the leanest digital agency in Chicago. By partnering with freelance creatives with decades of experience, we can move faster with incredible power in capturing and producing great stories that engage and convert audiences into customers.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Orbis Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a digital agency specializing in creating engaging experiences for audiences that convert them into customers. Our focus is on the conversational, audio narrative which feeds not just podcasts but content creation and creative storytelling in record-time. Our process of real-time website building is different than anything I’ve seen or experienced with any agency in my 22 years of digital. I am most proud of the depth and intensity of stories we capture with this process.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our future plans are to expand our process of real-time website creation so that small creative teams anywhere in the world can converge on an organization and produce an engaging story more powerfully and cost effectively than any traditional approach currently employed by typical agencies.
