Meet Hanson Ansary of Global Management Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanson Ansary.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Hanson. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Back in 2002, right after the 9/11 tragedies, the event industry was great deal of difficulty. Right then, GMS had just been put up for sale. At the time, knowing little about the industry, I fell in love with the company and after a protracted period of negotiations, I bought the company. Soon after, I realized the company was in far more difficult financial condition than the financial statements indicated. A long and arduous period of rebuilding started. We had to rebrand ourselves and regain our clients’ and our suppliers’ confidence all over again. Now, 15 years after that shaky start-up, we are recognized as one of the most reputable companies around on a solid financial footing and with a very diverse product line and service area. This all goes to the truth of the expression: “if it doesn’t kill you, it will make you stronger.”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Unlike many other industries, the event industry is very cyclical, fragmented and somewhat unpredictable–making it a challenging environment to expect continued growth. Needless to say, we have had many ups and downs over the years. The biggest challenge has always been to manage the balance between workflow and manpower requirements.

Please tell us about Global Management Services.
We are an international event planning company serving all of the US and Canada. We specialize in corporate events of any size and nature. We are known for our creativity (a critical success factor) and the breadth of our services and geographic spread (unlike many of our competitors that specialize in one geographic area). We are very proud of having gained a reputation as an upstanding company in an industry that has had many fly-by-night players. We are also very proud to have slowly expanded our service territory to all of North America. Most importantly, however, we take a great deal of pride in our integrity as a company.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Short of miracles, I would have never changed a thing. We are a very proud small company–something you can’t just manufacture or buy.
