Today we’d like to introduce you to Kinzie Schweigert.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Mad River is about to celebrate 11 years of business this August! The company started on the east coast in Manhattan, New York and made its way to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Charleston and finally our home in Chicago. We started as just a sports bar with amazing food and drink specials but really expanded by throwing great parties, fundraisers, trivia nights, karaoke nights and anything else you can think of. We have yet to meet an event we can’t handle! Our flexibility and incredible staff over the last 11 years is really what got us to where we are today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never smooth. If its smooth everyone would do it! We even had a fire one year (we weren’t open at the time, don’t worry). Had to stay closed for a few weeks and remodel.
But this bar and the people who have worked here over the years are incredibly resilient and we know how to roll with the punches. By keeping everything light and always knowing how to have a good time, rain or shine, we’ve stayed relevant in this booming and ever-changing city.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mad River Bar and Grille – what should we know?
We’re known for our parties, happy hours and E-A-G-L-E-S Bombs! Whether it’s a Philadelphia Eagles game watch or our big New Year’s Eve party there’s always something going on. We go all out for, Michigan State games, and all Chicago Sports teams but where we really shine is birthday parties, fundraisers and things like our famous Ribapalooza Event that happens every July with all-you-can-eat BBQ Ribs. If you need a place to throw a party or you just want to go out somewhere and not have to buy a table or a bottle in order to have a good time, we’re the place.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Service. Our bartenders and servers love it here and we think that translates to our customers. We are a family. Come hang out with us!
