Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Haley.
Todd, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After college, I worked in visual merchandising doing fashion windows, then model rooms and lastly event design – all of which afforded me to learn scale, use of color, creating “tension” among others things the “old school” way.
After working for some top Chicago interior design and architecture firms, I opened my practice in 1993. I have always maintained that a Designer have their own point of view and stick with it – at the same time reflecting the client – which is essentially a balancing act. Most of all, a space needs to work for the Client and exceed their needs and expectations… As a Designer, you create spaces for your Client that they would not have thought of e.g. dining in the Library. Most all of my Clients are referral or someone that has seen my work in-person or print. I have done work in New York, Florida, Colorado and Nevada.
Has it been a smooth road?
The economy and indecisive Clients can make for a very bumpy “road”.

I create interiors that are informed by an inclusive attitude towards design which juggle multiple periods and broad ranging price points from E-bay to the flea markets of Paris. Recently for a project, I paired a white lacquer cube as a drink table from CB2 between pair of Louis XVI chairs. In my own residence, I used three over-scale mirrors from Ikea grouped together for a theatrical effect. My projects are individually and meticulously executed based on the personality and lifestyle of each Client – resulting in livable, approachable interiors. A part of the philosophy is to keep the firm small; enabling me hands-on participation on each project.
