Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sheila Crowe.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been fascinated with healing since I was a little girl. I would pour over my mother’s midwifery and natural healing books soaking up the information and feeling as if they were reminding me of things I already knew. Healing is in my blood, heart and soul. I’ve always been driven to get at the source of illness, the root. I believe that we are multidimensional beings. We are more than flesh and bone. We are born with the ability to heal. As a Chiropractor, I detect and remove obstacles to healing. I’m passionate about health as it is our most precious asset. I’m blessed to be a healer. Chiropractic is the perfect fit for me because it gets to root causes and conditions. At first glance Body & Soul is a Chiropractic Office. Look a little deeper and you will see that Body & Soul is an oasis for deep healing. We foster a safe environment where healing is inevitable. We are known for our gentle approach to health. We suspend judgement, we are here to serve and we walk our talk. We receive the same care that we recommend to our patients. We are all on our own healing journeys. We give and receive Reiki, massage, essential oil treatments and adjustments. I’m most proud of our patients that walk hand in hand with us on this journey. People that I am proud to call my friends that have trusted me with their health for the past 18 years. It’s an honor. I don’t take it lightly.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I ran the hurdles in high school. I love a challenge! Obstacles and challenges are what stretch us. We are capable of handling so much more than we think. The road has been hilly to say the least. I started my practice with $500 and a dream! I had no idea how I was going to make it but I knew I couldn’t work for someone. I knew what kind of healing I wanted to provide and that it had to be on my terms. The Universe supported my dream wholeheartedly! There were times that we had plenty of money and resources and times I didn’t know where the mortgage money was going to come from. In 2009 many of my patients lost their jobs and insurance coverage. In the blink of an eye my income was cut in half. I made a decision to move forward when fear told me to quit. I quickly learned that what matters most is not material wealth but the connections I’ve formed with my patients and love we have for each other. Simplifying my life was very difficult but has been the greatest gift as I now know the difference between want and need. In 2011 my husband & I were blessed with our Daughter, Brenna. I chose to breastfeed her for as long as she needed to. My husband would bring her to nurse in between patients and the Doctor I worked with at the time took amazing care of my patients when I needed to be home. What started out as a 3 week maternity leave turned into working part time for 2 years as I gave every spare minute to my daughter. Inspired by nursing mothers in an underserved area, I became a lactation expert and now offer breastfeeding consultation in my practice. Every challenge came bearing a gift. In 2014 my practice changed again with the departure of many of my staff and the opportunity to rebrand and rebuild. Creation and energy joined forces and my practice is now more patient focused than ever and operates almost paper free. I’ve surrounded myself with an incredible team of passionate and professional healers and leaders. We strive to be walking examples of health, wholeness and joy.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Body & Soul Health Care – what should we know?
I started the practice in 2001 in Orland Park in a one room office on the top floor of an old farmhouse. It was quaint, adorable and small! Within a few months we took over the top floor. Growth continued and by 2003 we knew we had to move into a larger space. The desire was to stay within 5 miles of the original space to accommodate current patients. There wasn’t much in my price range and none of the affordable places felt right. I took a leap of faith and expanded my search to 6 miles out and up popped 7060 Centennial Drive Suite 102 just 5.1 miles away. I knew walking in that it was home. The office is a home away from home for many, so the energy and ‘feel’ is priceless. We are tucked away in Tinley Park, many say that they feel better as soon as they walk through the door.

None of my success is possible without my dream team supporting and helping me every step of the way. My husband is my biggest fan and my partner. His vision and willingness to hold down the fort enables me to treat patients, travel and create a place where people come for healing. My parents have been my mentors and have encouraged me my entire life. I learned how to persevere through adversity by watching them do the same & succeed. I am blessed with so many wonderful people that have helped me and encouraged me, believed in me and held my hand when I needed a friend. Fellow Chiropractors, healers and entrepreneurs have inspired me to be better.
